Faith is vital in every relationship. As a Christian, can you go on a date? Are Christians allowed to date or use a dating app? What does the Bible say about dating?
Are Christians Allowed to Date?
Dating is allowed in Christianity. It is not prohibited by the Bible. However, when Christians do date, sex is off the table. Sex before marriage is not allowed in Christianity, even in some religions.
God created man and woman to be together. If you don’t date, you can’t discover the person who is right for you. But dating when you’re Christian means that you get to know each other without sexual intimacy.
It also means that you can use an online dating website to find a match with the same faith as you.
What are the Rules to Follow in Christian Dating?
Christian dating can be complicated if you are casually or aimlessly dating. However, if you intend to strengthen your relationship with God then, you won’t end up hurting yourself or your partner.
Unfortunately, the old rules may no longer be appropriate these days. Remember that every relationship has variables. Thus, you need to consider your age, how mature you are, and whether or not your partner is a believer.
Date with the Intent to Get Married
Most couples now are dating without the intent of getting married. However, if you date like this, then you are like going to the grocery store without money.
You will be unsatisfied.
That’s why it is vital to date with a purpose.
It means that you have to understand the gospel. For that reason, you need to date someone who shares the same values and goals as you.
As a Christian, you can’t benefit from casual dating. The reason for this is that human beings are intentional people. We love to know why we do stuff and find out where we are going.
Dating is the same.
However, dating to get married does not mean that you only date one person in your entire life. Although it is awesome to only date one person and get engaged and married, it may not always be realistic.
Keep in mind that just because you both love Jesus and he meets the values you have, he may not be the best person for you. You may end up breaking up while you continue to seek the Lord.
Get a List of Values
When looking for a life partner, you must have a list of values you are looking for in a future spouse. You need this list before getting into a relationship.
Having a list of values will guide you on the road to marriage. However, it does not mean that you interview him on the first date.
It’s weird.
But you should not compromise. Your heart and purity are more vital to give away just because you are impatient.
Be Okay to Desire Marriage
It is okay to want to get married while you are still dating. God knows that it is not good for Adam to be by himself.
Thus, he created Eve.
In that case, it is okay to pray for God to send you a spouse. However, you must not allow your desire to consume your entire life and dating life.
You must wait on the Lord, so be patient.
Have a Pure Mind
It is important to have a pure mind while dating. Even if you are still a virgin, but you secretly struggle with pornography, then it is not okay.
That’s why it is vital to have a pure mind while dating. It can be difficult. It needs restraint, discipline, and abstinence from things that don’t promote holiness.
However, the sacrifice you make is worth the prize.
Having a pure mind is the greatest gift you can offer to your future spouse. It lets you jump into marriage with a pure mind. There’s no baggage and regret.
In that case, you must not date a person who will not honor your purity.
Dating does not mean you are entirely into the bond of marriage. You have not made your vows yet. Thus, the person you are dating is not yet yours.
To practice purity, it has to start with a pure mind and heart.
Know Your Worth
It does not matter how you were raised. You must not think that your worth depends on finding someone to love you. It’s only applicable in fairytales.
Don’t fall into that trap. If you do, you will only want to date a partner who will validate your worth.
If you are committed to finding your value in Christ’s love, the more you are ready to date for the right reasons. Once you are confident in your worth, you will not be a needy person who will suck the life out of the person you are dating just to find affirmation.
But it does not mean that you should avoid dating someone who compliments and affirms you. However, when you are grounded in God’s love, the person’s compliments will endear you and bless you for the right reasons.
Don’t Obsess Over the One
Christians run the race with their eyes fixed on Jesus. Unfortunately, most young adults now take their eyes off the finish line just to look for a spouse.
However, God wants you to run the race that He has set for you. But you need to fix your eyes on Jesus.
You must be zealous to run for Christ. And while you are running, you may notice a man’s hand in the back helping you run the race, it may be the guy you must marry.
Finding real romance is difficult in the Christian world. But if you trust everything in God, He will light your path. It is also ideal that you seek godly mentors to help prepare you to be a godly mate.
When you find that person, stay true to yourself and stay committed to your relationship.
